This is the second ArtOrder Portfolio Class: The Self Assessment.

I've still a bit to complete on this near the end (you can tell because the answers get really crappy and short). I'm still searching for the answers to those questions and can only hope I find them soon enough to make a decent portfolio before Illuxicon.

Welp, here goes nothing:
Self Assessment under the cut...Collapse )

So I'm currently trying to go through an online "class" for portfolio building. I say class in quotes because it's really just a set of assignments from another blog called The ArtOrder. There are 7 articles on how to direct yourself, find where you want to be and make a plan to get there. For those of you who are interested in checking it out you can go to class 1 here (http://theartorder.com/what-is-a-portfolio/).

The first class is one that I have skipped around on. Mostly because I'm a wee bit too lazy at the moment to gather ALL of the work I've done (I'm thinking both digital and traditional). There's also the fact that I really haven't made a portfolio since I left college. So realistically it's like I don't have one at all, because I can never seem to finish things enough to where I'd like to put them in a real portfolio (I mostly just do sketches here and there, nothing truly *finished* with a full background a solid illustration foundation). I need to boot up my PC and see if there's anything I've left on that machine that I've created in the past. I already have a miniature HDD and I think I've pulled everything from my PC (Death Jr---friend of mine named it, not me :p) off already but it wouldn't hurt to check.

I also need to go through my traditional pieces as well. Although I'm afraid that might take more muscle than I'm willing to give at the moment. I have a plastic tub in the storage closet full of stuff from my senior show (most of which is 3-D work) but I'm not sure what the entire contents are. However that tub is buried under other tubs, equipment and other such various and sundry things. So I hate to say it, but I feel like I've skipped over this step a good bit. I will come back and finish this assessment soon hopefully. I just have to locate where all my work is and sift through it. Although, I'm pretty sure the result will be the same as right now---having nothing according to the guidelines that fits within the initial 'keep' pile.

Anywho, I'm going to try to document these classes as I take/go through them. I've already read up to class 6 but only done the 'homework' for a few. Onward and upward!

My medication has been switched upside down, around and every which way but it still seems I can't fully get rid of my inconsolable feeling of uselessness and despair. :(

I'm set to go to Germany in roughly a week. I've been sick for a full week and am finally seeming to be over it ( with the exception of some phlegm and a slight cough). If I'm not fully well by Friday I'm going to the doctor. I'd really like to be well physically and emotionally for Germany but somehow I doubt I will be. I can't even think straight enough to decide what to pack, clean, or anything of the sort. :/ I'm better with people around but it is a chore sometimes.

I'm sitting on the couch on my day off and have been all day with the exception of a small stint on the computer attempting a failed photoshop doodle. I just feel like sleeping, which is how I felt before medication so something is going on chemically. But I'm not sure what :/

Anyway, just a quick jot in the lj to mark my behavior. Ugh I hope this passes soon.

What is ACTA?  ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Essential ACTA Resources

  • Read more about ACTA here: ACTA Fact Sheet
  • Read the authentic version of the ACTA text as of 15 April 2011, as finalized by participating countries here: ACTA Finalized Text

Say NO to ACTA. It is essential to spread awareness and get the word out on ACTA.

Stolen from vikingprincess because people who introduce bills like these should be more than just shot in painful, vital areas.

I don't reblog often, or a lot but this? This deserves it. Consider reblogging on your LJ and spreading some awareness around please. <3

Also, bolded the same thing vikingprincess did, because it affects TONS of women.

Okay, so I don't usually do this, but this is an issue near and dear to me and this is getting very little no attention in the mainstream media.

Mississippi is voting on November 8th on whether to pass Amendment 26, the "Personhood Amendment". This amendment would grant fertilized eggs and fetuses personhood status.

Putting aside the contentious issue of abortion, this would effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have miscarriages. This is not a good thing.

Jackson Women's Health Organization is the only place women can get abortions in the entire state, and they are trying to launch a grassroots movement against this amendment. This doesn't just apply to Mississippi, though, as Personhood USA, the group that introduced this amendment, is trying to introduce identical amendments in all 50 states.

What's more, in Mississippi, this amendment is expected to pass. It even has Mississippi Democrats, including the Attorney General, Jim Hood, backing it.

The reason I'm posting this here is because I made a meager donation to the Jackson Women's Health Organization this morning, and I received a personal email back hours later - on a Sunday - thanking me and noting that I'm one of the first "outside" people to contribute.

So if you sometimes pass on political action because you figure that enough other people will do something to make a difference, make an exception on this one. My RSS reader is near silent on this amendment. I only found out about it through a feminist blog. The mainstream media is not reporting on it.

If there is ever a time to donate or send a letter in protest, this would be it.

What to do?

- Read up on it. Wake Up, Mississippi is the home of the grassroots effort to fight this amendment. Daily Kos also has a thorough story on it.

- If you can afford it, you can donate at the site's link.

- You can contact the Democratic National Committee to see why more of our representatives aren't speaking out against this.

- Like this Facebook page to help spread awareness.

I'm in Atlanta for the weekend because there is an AWA meeting tomorrow, so naturally my mom met me and Jenn and we went to a restaurant I haven't been to in a while--Altobeli's! It's a cute little piano bar in Alpharetta. I was lucky enough to get up and sing in front of the crowd so yay! It's always a good night when I get to sing. ^_^ I messed up a few words but I wasn't terrible considering I had never practiced with the pianist before and that I wasn't looking at the words I had looked up on my iphone. x__x Oh well, live and learn.

One of the things I found odd today was that when I went to Altobeli's website (in order to find directions to them) I saw that my ex boyfriend was their webmaster. And the bottom totally dropped out of my stomach. I know it sounds silly but I was frightened at just seeing his name. I hate that just his name is still enough to set me on edge. I'd like to just be indifferent to him but it seems my subconscious is not going to let me do that.

It was just sobering to realize how easily it is for me to run into something from the past that haunts me.

Mentally I understand that he taught me a very valuable lesson that I will not forget. I understand that I was vulnerable and in a bad place and that either by choice or opportunity he took advantage of me. And that even though I feel somewhat ashamed of even having the relationship, I shouldn't be because everyone makes mistakes.

And I'd write more but my sister's keyboard is driving me nuts...it's one of the ergonomic ones, and usually that wouldn't bother me except you have to PUNCH any of the keys you want to type....it's difficult. x_X More later hopefully, hope you all are doing well out there in internet land. :)

Title: Ouroborus

Rating: Mature

Word Count: 1,129

Warning: Acts of a sexual nature are involved. Innuendo. Nightmares of past violence and rape.

Author’s Notes: All praise be to filia_umbrae  </lj> my friend whom I tortured to read and revise this with me wonderful, wonderful beta for this story! There's a reason the fandom is not listed. Partly because I want it to be interchangeable for the fandoms I'm writing for and partly because this will be going into a story that I'm writing as part of a chapter. I do, however, feel it can stand well enough on it's own. Therefore it gets its' own little ficlet drabble space on my LJ. If you like things with a dark cynical twist *looks at Luce and Ang* then I hope you'll like this. :) Now, on with the informative/artsy author's notes--inspired by good ol' Wikipedia!

Ouroborus on Wikipedia!

Ouroborus comes from the Greek meaning “tail-devourer”. The serpent eating itself appears in several cultures and has many meanings, although they all seem to coincide with each other; to put it in an over simplified way of speaking, ‘ying and yang’. A force equaled on both sides, one caused by the other.

For this story I am starting at the head, the beginning as it were, and moving along the body, which I see as inspired by the alchemical meaning projected onto the symbol, to cycle through some of the different meanings only to end up at the tail, which for me is Jungian inspired, just to be eaten by the head—the beginin—again.

I don’t plan for there to be a resolution in this one shot. The story itself aims to be an ouroborus, a never ending cycle which only perpetuates itself. For those of us who love our own self-inflicted and self-driven tendencies, I hope you enjoy this.

Ficlet: The OuroborusCollapse )

And that ladies and gents is a full day of writing, and rehashing. Much love to my Jebby-Jebb-Jebberson whom I will have to torture to read and beta for me some more (whether she likes it or not dammit!) For now, I'm off to piddle with something else. ^^
